Archiving on XP

Moving to XP...

On my (older Windows 98 I used the command line WinZip program.

I created a multi-line batch files which compressed and archived various
data files in the computer into single file on my zip drive.

XP had, a build in "zipping" capability thus I hesitate to install WinZip
and do the same on my XP machine.

Does XP has a, build in, utility with the capability I have on my W98
machine?

Any advise?

Don't hesitate to use Winzip. You have it. Use it. It's a good tool.

Hi

There is no command line interface for the builtin zip functionality
in WinXP.

Not one with command line control. It makes zip files behave as if they
were folders that you can open and copy (drag) items into and out of.

It has the downside of causing search to spend a lot of time searching
in zip files - often something you do *not* want. I prefer to have an
independent WinZip program, and turn off the inbuilt - Start - Run and
run the line
regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll

Same without the /u to restore it
