Archiver qusstion, re: Power Archiver/Ultimate Zip

There are some OS experts here, hope for some advice.

Windows ME. PowerArchiver 6.11.

Yesterday, I could still archive a file, but can no longer open a zip file.

I went to Explorer/Folder Options/File Types, see the zip extension
shows only a windows default, so something changed it. Deleted the zip
extension, created a new one, open with- browsed to powerarchiver.exe.
BTW, ME has a very limited Edit function for a file type compared to W98SE.

Still can't open a zip file.
Went to Run/winfile, File/Associate, did the same, still no luck.

Repeated the above with UltimateZip, had same results. Unable to set the
default to open a zip file.

Advice?

TIA

Obviously. It is merely an antiquated way of doing exactly what you did
in File Types.

Advice?

1. Try setting the file associations for the zip program via its
configuration options.

2. Uninstall program(s), clean reg, reinstall program, set file
associations for the zip program via its configuration options. Forget
UltimateZip, it is/was flaky.

Thanks to you and Fran. While troubleshooting, I tried a clean install
of Power Archiver and the first time you run it, you get "do you want to
associate" screen, I did, no luck.

I will go back to another clean start as you suggest.
