archive won't work after office 2003 installation

I am running sp1 2003. All of the outlook mail and other functions are
working but I can't get archive to work. When I try to archive any
individual folder, I get an error message telling me to set up a new profile
in Mail. I have checked both the mail profile and the archive setup in
outlook: both correctly identify the location of the outlook.pst and
outlook.archive file. The outlook.pst file gets updated correctly every time
something changes. The archive.pst file is in the same location, but it's
size and date have not changed since may when I upgraded to 2003.
Previously, everything was working fine. Any thoughts?

did you make a new profile or use the existing one?

I'm not sure. Someone else installed my upgrade. However, the profile seems
to be working fine for email

there appear to be a number of problems using old profiles in Outlook- we
recommend creating a new as the first step in troubleshooting. Go to control
panel, mail and add another profile. Don't copy or delete the existing one.
See if the problem is corrected by the new profile.

HI:
I think you have identified the problem, but the solution is not
straightforward.
In the old profile, there was one data file with the format specified as
"Personal FOlder File (97-2002).
I made a new profile and created new file using the new format and renamed
it Archive. I kept the file named "outlook.pst" since it didn't want to blow
away something that is now working.
I moved my old archive file from the target directory. Now I have an
outlook.pst and archive.pst. However, the archive still doesn't work.
BTW, I had to disconnect my network connection when I selected the new
profile as my default, since my email server thinks I am a new account and
started to download 2000 files!.

Suggestions?
