Using WinXP Home, OL2000; upon trying to recover an archive, each entry was
duplicated eleven times (though the "Do not import duplicates" switch was
set!).

How can I automatically delete the "extra" ten occurrences of each item, and
how can I prevent this from happening again?

Also, I note that there is an "Outlook", "Backup" and "Archive" folder
generated when an archive is made--each with different file sizes. What are
each for?

Thanks.

Please tell me you didn't try to import all the archived data into Outlook.
That would just mean that you'd have to archive or delete it all over again.
The way to work with archived data is to open the archive .pst file with the
File | Open | Outlook Data File command.

All your data is in .pst files. There is no special signficance to the name,
except that Outlook by default names a new primary .pst file as Outlook.pst
and a new archive as Archive.pst.
