Archive.pst disappears!!

I've probably read through every message on this board that could possibly be
relevant to this problem, but couldn't find an answer. Sorry if i've missed
it. Here's the problem:
When I archive emails in Outlook 2000, an archive.pst folder initially
appears in the folder list. But then it disappears right before my eyes!

- The path indicated in the archive box is C\docs &
settings\[username]\local settgs\app'n data\microsoft\outlook\archive.pst,
but as others have said, following that path leads to an inaccessible file.

- When I try File - Open in outlook, my choices are Selected Items and
Personal Folders File (.pst). Choosing the .pst option opens the list of
folder in My Documents (files of type PST). Oddly, when i was working with a
mcafee tech person on this problem (archiving was supposed to help a mcafee
problem), when i went to file -open there were 2 options, one including
"archive," and clicking it brought the folder back to my folder list. but
that option isn't there now.

- The only way i've been able to bring the archive.pst file back to the
folder list is to archive another bunch of emails; then the file reappears.
It stays for a few minutes and then disappears -- to where, i wish i knew.

Can anyone help? Many thanks.

When you try File | Open | Personal Folders File, if you navigate to the file
path you described earlier in your message, can you find the archive.pst file
then? If not, I assume you are using either Windows 2000 or XP, which may
consider the folder a hidden folder. If you go into Tools | Folder Options
in Windows Explorer and click the View tab, under Files and Folders, click
the button to "Show hidden files and folders". You should be able to find
the archive file then.

Once you open the Archive file in Outlook it should stay in your folder list
till you close it, but personally I would keep it closed when not in use --
it lessens the risk of file corruption if the file is closed and you have a
system crash or something.
