archive in outlook

After I archive, I can see that my archive.pst file has grown, but my
outlook.pst file is the same size. Shouldn't the outlook.pst file decrease in
size by the amount the archive.pst increases?

I can see that the messages have moved, but I need to shrink the
outlookfile, as I am near max. I have compressed with only minor decrease in
size.

How can I shrink the size of the outlook file now?

I've compacted, but it seems strange that outlook archived 500MB of data into
a new archive file, but compacting only reduced the size of the file by 45
MB. Is this normal?

It could be as it works with % free, so the bigger your pst-file the less it
returns. But sometimes running the Compact Now up to 3 times returns some
extra free space. But in combination with your other post, I believe this is
no longer an issue?
