Arabic Numerals

Hi Guys,
I previously had a Word document which, when the Ctrl key was pressed in
conjunction with a regular numeral, would print the Arabic version of that
numeral in Tahoma 16. I'm not sure how it was set up to do this but we've
lost the document and have to create a new one. Anybody any ideas ?. I'd
appreciate the help.

Thanks all,
Jen

It sounds like you had custom keyboard shortcuts for the numeral
characters -- or, did they behave like proper numbers, i.e. you could
do arithmetic with them? If the latter, it's probably a setting in
Windows (Start > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options).

If the former, you can check whether your keyboard shortcuts are still
there by going to the Arabic range of Unicode (Insert Symbol, dropdown
at the upper right); single-click on one of the numbers and see
whether a keyboard shortcut is still present. If the shortcut exists,
Word will use the default font for Arabic to insert the number (in
your case, it would be Tahoma) -- though I'm surprised that it would
always give you the same size; have you tried it when the surrounding
roman text is a different size from what you usually use? (Word makes
Arabic somewhat bigger than the surrounding text for legibility.)

You might need to set the font in the Insert Symbol pane (upper left)
to Tahoma instead of (normal) etc. in order to see the Arabic range.

If the shortcuts no longer exist, create them over again using the
button at the middle bottom of the Insert Symbol panel. Word will by
default save them in the normal.dot(m) template.

Oh sorry....i had to create new keyboard shortcuts for the numerals 1-9 in
Arabic and set the font to Tahoma. These numbers are inserted into a table
and so i set the font size for that table to 16 and the Arabic symbols are
now the correct size when i insert them.

Thanks again,
Jen
