Appointments entered on Pocket PC then synced can't add invitees

If I enter an appointment on my Pocket PC (iPaq 3760) then sync it to Outlook
2003, SP 2 (using ActiveSync 3.8.0, build 5004), the appointment comes over
fine. However, if I then invite attendees in Outlook, the emails will not
send (I get send/receive errors). If I initiate the appointment in Outlook
and invite attendees, the emails to these attendees send fine.

Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks.
