Appointments disappear in Outlook 2003

We are experiencing a problem in Outlook 2003 Small Business Standard Edition
with appointments being made and then next day they may or may not be there.
This is happening on our desktops as well as laptops. We are running
Exchange 2000. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

After furious head scratching, Robinson asked:
