Appointments are garbled

I have a mixture of outlook 2002 clients and outlook 2000 clients. If an outlook 2002 client sends an appointment request to an outlook 2000 client the message arrives in something that resembles MIME format. I have tried sending the message using HTML and Plain Text with no success. I have also tried install all related service packs on both the 2002 and 2000 clients with no success. I do not have an Exchange server. All of our email is sent to an external POP server. All meeting requests sent from a 2002 client to another 2002 client work and look fine. The same is true for a 2000 client sending an appointment to another 2000 client. What is going on here?

Tell the OL2002 user to leave out the reminder when sending meeting
requests. You can also contact Microsoft Support for a hotfix for the
Outlook 2000 users to resolve this iCal compatibility issue.
