Applications won't minimize properly

Since I installed Service Pack 2 I can no longer see any open apps on the
task bar when I minimize them. Really annoying!

When I press the 'minimize' box [underscore line], the programme I am
running disappears instantly somewhere off down near the left near the green
START button. But it should be displayed on the blue taskbar, and isn't.

Instead I have to track what is open or closed using Task Manager

I have tried all options inside 'properties' on taskbar, but no result.

Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas?
