applications on taskbar lost

the minimized programs on my taskbar have been lost. I
seem to have completely removed this section from the
taskbar. I have tried unlocking the taskbar and turning
off autohide, these have done nothing. unless one of the
extra toolbars is active (i.e. language bar, media
player, etc.) the taskbar and start menu button disappear
completely. The only solution I can think of would be to
use the "new toolbar..." option to recreate the toolbar
from the file equivalent to the "applications" tab on the
task manager. The only snag in my plan is that I can
t find this file. If anyone can point out this file to
me, or suggest a simpler solution to my problem, I would
be much obliged.
