I'm finding that one out of three times I boot & log on to
WinXP Pro, all of my applications that are set to run at
startup don't show in the system tray next to the clock.
It appears that they are running, just not visible. A
reboot will usually take care of it until next time. I've
re-created my profile, but the problem persists. Anybody
with ideas?

R-click in the Taskbar (Click Lock if it is checked to unlock it) and
take Properties. Next to HIde icons, . . . click Customise. There you
can select particular items and take an explicit Always Hide or Always
show in the drop-down to their right.

Note that anything that causes Explorer to exit and reload (which
*ought* not to happen, but occasionally does), so that the programs
still run, then the icons will be lost until next boot
