Applications arent working

I cant open any applications on my computer
even when i tried to download antivirus prgrams or ad
aware i couldn't open it to set it up

my internet explorer also keeps telling me that theres an
error and shuts down

any help would be appreciated

Try a repair installation. Boot off your Windows XP CD, choose INSTALL,
then press R to repair (after it has found the existing installation).
