application works fine in 2000 but won't work in networked XP-Pro pc

I added another pc to an existing network. It's an XP-Pro.
Certain applications cause an anomaly when I try to open
files that boot me back out to the desktop. I tried one
fix by editing a setting in the Registry that sounded like
the problem when I searched the Knowledge Base but the
problem recurred?? Any ideas?
 
Might want to try posting to an WinXP ng.
I think yr saying you start an app and it immediately closes?
