Application popup prior to logon screen appearing

Here is the background on this machine.

This is alaptop that was purchased from a company that replaced technology.
now why they didnt wipe the drives prior to selling thest to their employees
for personal use, i dont know, but none theless, they didn't.

the laptop has XP rpo installed and is using the welcome screen. At boot
up, just before the "Applying computer settings" screen, a popup window
appears that is abviously put in place by the company that owned the system.
This pop up is titled "Company XYZ" and the window says youknow you are using
our computer and we can montor your use at any time...bla...bla...blah".

My question is, how do I remove this?

I originally thought it may have been a logon script that is running the app
but RSOP didnt show any logon policies applied.

I have also checked all the usual places to no avail.

Ani ideas?

That's odd, but even if they had, you should still do this yourself whenever
you get a used computer.

No - it's likely a shard from the domain group policy settings.

but RSOP didnt show any logon policies applied.

There are obviously policies applied, though.

I have also checked all the usual places to no avail.

Although it is possible to remove a lot of the domain security policies,
etc., you shouldn't use the computer until you've done a clean install as
per http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html .

The real thing to do would be to wipe the machines clean and reinstall
Windows.

What you are looking at or seeing may not be an application, it could
just be LegalNoticeCaption or LegalNoticeText stored at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

That was it...found the registry keys and the popup is now gone!

Lanwench...I agree, I am puzzled as to why the company didnt wipe the system
either. My friend is reluctant to wipe it out as they do not have the
install media for things such as Office and want to be able to continue to
use it. Perhaps they didnt wipe it because of where they thought the system
was going.

Company sold it to employee, who used it for personal use. Employee gave it
to fiancee's parents who now have it and ended up with some serious spyware
that had to be cleaned....while I was at it, I decided to tackle this notice.
