Application opening very slowly

Hi Guys,

Wondering if anyone can help. In XP when i try and open
any application by double clicking on a file(whatever it
is e.g notepad) the application takes about 30secs to
open - it works fine but just takes a long time. I can
however open the application notepad forst without any
problems and then do a FILE OPEN -this works fine. It is
only when i double click on the file from my mahcine or a
network drive that it takes about 30secs to open. This is
the same for any file such as word or excel. The mahcine
works fine apart from this - i can browse the network
fast and do everythiing else normally.

This is the acse no matter who logs onto the machine.
Also i have rebooted\reset the swap file and selceted the
option for maximum performance in control panel.

Does anyone have any ideas? maybe a registry setting?
Also the problem has only recently started - i have
performed a system restore prior to the problem time with
no lick.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Ronnie

"Vnunet and others are reporting that Windows XP's
Service Pack 1 has introduced a flaw into the operating
system. Changes to memory handling code result in programs
which often allocate memory (which is many of them) can
take up to ten times longer than normal to start.
Microsoft has acknowledged the problem in Q815411, and
while a patch is available by request from Microsoft
Product Services, it will not be widely released until
Service Pack 2."

What does a scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a version not
later than 2002 and using updated virus definitions) show? Also, remove
spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy from www.security.kolla.de and
Ad-aware from www.lavasoftusa.com. Doing this is the first step of
troubleshooting with a Windows machine. Please post back if you need
more help after you are sure your machine is clean. Be sure to include
the troubleshooting steps you've already taken.
