Application "Needs" MDAC and MSJet40 installed?

I am running Windows Vista Business and have a parts database application
that has a prerequisite to install MDAC 2.7 or higher, and MSJet 4.0 prior to
running the applications setup.exe file. It's my understanding that Vista
does not use MDAC or MS Jet, so my question is this: Is there a method to
"trick" this application into thinking that these 2 prerequisites are
installed and running, or to let the application know of some other programs
running that replaced MDAC and MSJET? I have attempted to install the
application, and it states it was installed successfully, however it does not
run correctly, the images of the parts do not display, and the cursor just
spins, never completely bringing up the application fully. I appreciate any
help or responses I can get.

What is this "Application" Have you contacted the application site and see if it is compatible with Vista.

The application is called "Service Parts Identification Catalog" from
Lexmark. I'm waiting for a response from their tech support department, in
the hopes that they've come up with an update to the program so it will run
on Vista. I previously had it running on my XP SP2 pc with no problems, then
upgraded my pc to Vista Business and found the problem when I attempted to
reinstall the program.

Yep, that would be the problem. Some applications do not properly check for
dependencies - for example, this program needs MDAC (Microsoft Data Access
Components) and the MSJet database engine. It checks the installed version
of these components - and since Vista has newer versions than the MDAC
2.7/MSJet 4 software, the installer assumes that they're wrong - which they
aren't. The only possible solution at this point will be for Lexmark to fix
the software, or for you to run it in an XP virtual machine using Virtual
PC.

Richard, Thank you for the suggestion to run WindowsXP in a Virtual PC. I
had not heard of Virtual PC, but did some research on it and determined it
just might work. It worked PERFECTLY!!!

Thanks again,
