Larry, my previous reply was mostly copy 'n paste from an old message and I
see that you did specify that you have 32 bit vista home premium in your
post so please ignore that part of my reply. Hopefully the rest will be
helpful.

Thanks,
Richard

Hi Larry,

Do you have Sun JRE installed? If so, you should be able to see applets in
IE. From your message, it's not clear to me if applets display for you
in IE and maybe you only get the message when trying to view one in Windows
Mail. Also, whether you have 32bit or 64bit Vista might make a difference.

If you can view applets in IE then you may want to look at the attached. In
the zipped file is a simple 'applet in iframe' example that was a .nws file
renamed as an .mht file. You should be able to see the applet since the .mht
file opens in IE (if you can see applets in IE like here:
http://www.anfyteam.com). If you save the .mht file to your hard drive and
then rename it back to a .nws file as it was posted originally, it may work
fine for you or it may crash your Windows Mail. If it doesn't work for you
renamed back as a .nws file, the problem may be DEP.

I am aware of at least one person turning off UAC, disabling DEP and then
turning UAC back on and then applet stationeries using the 'applet in
iframe' method worked fine for them in Windows Mail and the Windows Mail
crashing problem was eliminated. I'm not advising anyone to turn off DEP and
since applet stationeries using the 'applet in iframe' method work fine for
me in Vista Windows Mail with DEP and UAC on (by default), I'm leaving the
DEP discussion to others. In any case here's a link that the person who
turned off DEP posted.
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/...ta-execution-prevention-dep-in-windows-vista/
You may want to look on the applets group on news.annexcafe.com for more
about this.

Since you post on annexcafe you may want to take a look at the applets
newsgroup there.

Applets stationeries created using the 'applet in iframe' method work fine
for me in Vista Windows Mail, but this seems not to be the case for everyone
with Vista. At this point my guess is that it's about half and half. They do
seem to work fine for everyone with XP.

Applet stationeries created the old way as they have been done for years
will not display the applet for anyone with Sun JRE only installed, not in
OE, and not in Windows Mail. You would have to install MS JVM to view them
and I advise against doing so since it is no longer supported:
http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/java/default.mspx
....but that's something that everyone will have to decide for themselves.
Many people getting new PCs with Vista are opting not to install MS JVM
which I think is the better decision.

Hope this helps.

Richard

Thank you Richard.
I have Sun Java and MVM installed, and I can open applet Stationery, only to
get the Proverbial Red X.
I check out the Applet Group, and see if I can sort this out. Others running
Vista can also see the applets.

Larry, it looks like you can see only the applet stationeries on the
annexcafe applet group that use the 'applet in iframe' method but not the
ones made the old way. The 'applet in iframe' method for making applet
stationeries is something I came up with some months ago in an effort to try
to find a way to make applets in stationery viewable for everyone, and
Annette over on the annexcafe applet group was kind enough to post some
applets using the applet in iframe method. There are still some with Vista
who have Windows Mail crash when they open any applet stationery. I have
Vista HP (32 bit) and Sun JRE only and the ones using the 'applet in iframe'
method work fine for me. IMO, this is how applet stationeries should be made
now since a lot of people (including me) will not install MS JVM.
