Append error

When making an append query to an autonumber field (to set the first number
to other than one) I'm getting this message: ". . MSO Access set 0 fields to
Null due to a type conversion failure, and it didn't add add 1 record to the
table to due to key violations, . . . " Unfortunately, when I click the
"Help" button it doesn't explain how, what, or where to correct.
Anxiously awaiting help . . .

There can be a variety of reasons. Try deleting all records in the table then
doing a compact and repair. See if it works then.

However you shouldn't be doing this at all. Autonumbers shouldn't have any
defined value except for being unique. If you want that field to have a
'meaning' or be sequential, you are going to be disappointed.

It means that something in the record you added caused a key violation.
Perhaps you have a relationship defined from this table to some other table,
and the value(s) you're adding don't match as foreign keys?
