Apostrophes turn into Boxes

Whenever I use an apostrophe (') in an email it is
received as a box. When I review the sent message, I get
boxes instead of 's. What gives?
 
Here's what I did to fix the problem I had of both quotes
and apostrophes being returned to me as "little squares":

1. Open Word and go to Tools>AutoCorrect Options
2. Go to "AutoFormat" tab and CLEAR "Straight quotes" with "smart quotes"
3. Go to "AutoFormat As You Type" tab and CLEAR "Straight quotes" with
"smart quotes"


I don't know that this will work for you, but it's simple and worth a try.
