AOLJPEGVIEW.EXE

I'm trying to rid my Mother's PC of a nasty littleprogram that gets loaded
everytime the PC starts. A nearly full screen window appears asking for
personal information to maintain her AOL account. The form looks like an AOL
window, but obviosly AOL would not be asking for the type of info (bank acct,
PIN, DL# SS#, etc)

I ran the updated Norton virus and spyware scan but it did not find
anything. I've determined that the offending process can be shutdown through
the Task Manager in the processes tab by selecting the process named
"AOLJPEGVIEW.exe" and clicking the End Process tab. This is the only way to
close the form, but it doesn't get rid of it for good. It continues to pop
up within 5 minutes every time the PC is turned on.

I'm thinking I need to clean the file out of the registry, but I'm not sure
how to do that.

Thanks for any help.

Try in safe mode.

You might also try Windows Defender Beta:

Also, the best place to post malware/spyware questions is probably
microsoft.public.security.homeusers

I also had a similar thing but it was an e-mail claiming that my bank
details were required for billing etc. I passed it on to AOL and they
were aware of this scammer.
