Hi. I have a Micron Millenia Pentium III that I recently upgraded to
Windows XP. When I choose "Turn Off Computer", it plays the sound, clicks,
turns off the system power light, but stays on. I have to use the power
button to make it really go off. It starts afterwards normally.

I've been looking at a LOT of solutions for this. One that scares me a
little is
a BIOS upgrade. Micron lists one on their site (
http://support.buympc.com/apps/filelist.asp?ID=3172 ),
but it says "Valid with Windows 98/NT/2000/ME only".

So do you have this machine? If so, do you have this problem? What BIOS
are you using?

Thanks in advance.

The reason it stays on or if you shut-down thru xp,then it turns of
only to restart is usually theres a hardware conflict.Theres shouldnt b
a problem with the pentium lll,add any pci or agp cards ? Try opening devic
mgr in xp see if any conflicts are present. The BIOS upgrade(s) should only com
from the board mfg,or a site specifically set by them, any one/where else your
taking a large gamble, a BIOS upgrade though for ME,2000,98 etc.if for youre boar
is ok,they never include xp.

Thanks, Andrew.

I don't have a hardware conflict, and I've downloaded all the XP patches
that seemed even remotely relevant. The hardware is all original, except
for some additional memory I added (same speed, different size).

Not quite sure I understand your BIOS recommendation. The motherboard
vendor is Tyan, but the BIOS is posted on Micron's (now MPC's) site. Are
you suggesting that isn't a good source?

Microsoft says the Millennia series is "compatible with Windows XP".
