I am trying to print to the RDP server printer from a program on my local
computer. I can see the printer in the RDP session but cannot see or access
it on my local machine. Any ideas?

It can be redirected in the same manner as any other printer on a network.

You need an SMB network path between the client machine and the printer, and
the printer needs to be shared on that network.

One way to achieve this is to use a VPN connection between the client
machine and the network on which the host machine is located, and ensure
that the desired printer is shared on that network, either via peer-to-peer
mechanisms or a network printserver of some sort.

You can't do it with the network facilities provided by a pure RDP
connection.
