I just bought a ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 Socket 939 (and a Athlon 64 X2
3800+ and some memory) for an upgrade. I haven't put it together yet
(weekend project) but was curious about the expansion slot for the
M2CPU board for 940 CPU's. I cannot find any pictures of this online. I
can find pictures of a similar product they have to go from other CPU's
TO a 939 CPU, but none for the M2CPU. The cards that go to 939 from
other CPU's are HUGE. Some even have slots for memory. Those things are
practically whole mobos that you plug into your old mobo only saving
you from moving your PCI & graphics cards. I don't expect they would
cost much less then entire new mobo. Is the M2CPU the same thing is it
a smaller (and more overall reasonable) thing? With versatility being
the draw for the ASRock 939Dual-SATA2, It would seem silly if the M2CPU
board is an "almost entire mobo solution". Everything text-wise written
about it give me the impression the pins are almost all there, they
just didn't have the physical room for 2 slots, some of the hardware
for the 2nd CPU slot was off-loaded to an expansion card. Since I've
just bought my 939 CPU I'm not planning to upgrade any time soon, I'm
just curious about what's up with the M2CPU board. Does it exist yet?
If not will it be out soon? How much will it cost? It might be okay if
it's up to ~$30 US, but too much more then that, why would anyone
bother going through the effort of adding a card and changing ALL the
jumpers for this (there are fair amount of jumper changes) to add a
card that is almost as expensive as a new mobo. I'm as lazy as anyone,
but geez at that point who wouldn't buy a new mobo. Anyway, any info on
the specially the M2CPU board for 939 to 940 (and not the other stuff
that goes xxx to 939) would be appreciated.
