It's pretty easy, but you better have a good reason. You
didn't say what operating system you want to use for
formatting, nor why you want to format. And if you plan to
reinstall a newer version of windows, you should make sure
you have all the drivers for your hardware, such as the
network card and CD drive. And you should make sure you
have a reliable backup.
Know anything about hard disk partitions? You should.
Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
