Any way to see firmware version in XP?

Firmware versions of DVD drives, etc., show in the first boot screen, but I
wonder if there's any way to get that info within XP. Intel Application
Accelerator shows it, but that's not compatible with the motherboard I have now.

Thanks!

| These three utilities are quite useful for finding hardware
| information:
|
| SiSoft's Sandra
| http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/index.php?dir=&location=sware_dl&lang=en
|
| Belarc Advisor
| http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
|
| Unlimited Possibilities' AIDA32
| http://www.aumha.org/downloads/aida32.zip

Thanks!

I have all three of those installed already. None of them shows firmware
versions of optical drives.

Try Nero. That shows you what firmware version

Its big. The program Nero Infotool is part
of Nero. This tells you the firmware version the buffer
size maybe the date and serial #. And the capabilities
of the burner. And maybe DVD.

Thanks Will, but I'm not getting that. I have XP Home. Are you using XP Pro
and does it report differently?

Here's what I'm getting concerning opticals under Components > Storage > Drives:

Drive G:
Description CD-ROM Disc

Drive H:
Description CD-ROM Disc

And this is what I show under Components > Storage > IDE:

Name Secondary IDE Channel
Manufacturer (Standard IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers)
Status OK
PNP Device ID PCIIDE\IDECHANNEL\4&26AA5C5&0&1
I/O Port 0x00000170-0x00000177

IRQ Channel IRQ 15

Thanks Paul, that works perfectly. I noticed even "Choose Recorder" under
Recorder on Nero's toolbar gives the firmware version for burners. And that's
what I was looking for (without having to reboot). :-)

Strange! I can't understand the discrepancy. Maybe I'm missing something.
Please give the precise string where you're finding this info.

TIA!

Start>Run type msinfo32. Click the plus sign next to Components, highlight
CDROM in the left pane and in the right pane next to the line that says 'PNP
Device ID' will be a bunch of info including the firmware version.
