I have a folder that contains about 1.9 GBytes of photos and CAD drawings.
If I explore this folder it IE frequently crashes with the following log
entry.

It turned out to be a problem with the shortcut to the folder I crested on
the desktop. It worked for a while then one of the updates made it start to
crash explorer. Deleting and re-creating the shortcut fixed it.

If you want to know more send email.

A banged out shortcut? Glad to hear you got it fixed and it was an easy
matter. Guess this is a good reminder that it pays to check out the simpler
things first. Thanks for the followup.

Someone else had the same problem so here are some more details:

I had this shortcut on te desktop for some time, then after several windows
updates I noticed that it was crashing Explorer.
The "problem" short cut on the desktop didn't have an arrow on it and if you
did a mouse over it said it pointed to: \\<computer_name>\SharedDocs.
Browsing via this shortcut on the local machine causes Explorer to crash.

The new short cut that seems to fix the problem has an arrow on it and doing
a mouse over says "Shortcut to Shared Documents Location: My Computer".

What _didn't_ work....

Replacing shell32.dll with another copy of the same version.
Running chkdsk /r
Running qfecheck
Running SFC /SCANONCE
Copying SharedDocs to CD and back again (eg restoring a backup)
