I have found a download for the Intel Chipset at:

Does anybody know if this is safe? And how do I find out if this is the
right chipset?

I am concerned about this since it could possibly be harmful since it is for
the whole chipset. Does anybody know if there is just a stand alone .inf
(or .exe) for the 82801AA AC'97 Audio Controller?

Thanks!

What make of motherboard? Intel or an OEM, e.g., Asus,
SuperMicro, etc. If the latter, I'd rely on the OEM to
provide its version of this utility since it covers a
lot of potential issues. What it really does should be
indicated in the release notes for its use and a specific
chipset.

Get EVEREST from www.lavalys.com and it will tell you the
details about your motherboard, then get the drivers from
the proper site.

Does Everest poll the mobo directly? Or does it just report what windows
thinks it is from the windows files?

Poll directly, very similar to AIDA32. Neat program and
free for home use.

The computer is an emachines, but I don't know if they use an Intel or other
motherboard. Any suggestions?

Get your driver, in order of choice...
eMachines
the mobo mfg'r
