Any chance of a x1900AGP?

I've seen many rumors of ATI never releasing an AGP faster than the x850 and
I've seen some to the contrary. They have released GPUs with higher
numbers than the X850 but none better for gaming as far as I know. Any
chance ATI will consider a faster video card for those of us with a decent
AGP system (other than the video card).

nobody uses the shader in the x1900 anyway. Windows Vista will require a
new series of graphic cards to be issued.

the 800 agp is fantastic.

the 850 price has held up because it is as fast as the new 1xxx series - iti
just has the old shader that IS used in today's programs.

sounds like you really want to go to pcie and everything that the main
streamer's have. They spend lots of money for "bragging rights".

You can tell from the shear lack of posts here, that folks are happy with
their ATI's across the board (all of em) and most folks are waiting for
Windows Vista and the new release of ATI video cards that will be compatible
with the 64 bit OS. OH! yeah and the new mainboards !
anybody remember what happened to the 386 two weeks after the 486 was
released ? huh ? 386 ? wha dat ?

Yep - I need to build a new system soon but a serious upgrade to my x850
agp could have held the dogs at bay a tad longer.

I hadn't heard anything about compatability for video cards for 64 bit but
really was hoping to see some DX10 cards soon!

I would guess that there will not be a X1900 AGP, I would assume anyone
willing to spend that much on a graphics card would
also be will to send the money a newer PCI-EX system.
But.......
ATI X1900 PCI-EX will be selling at $200 in a few months.
So a X1900 AGP would be around $240-$250
So if there is any chance of a X1900 coming out, it would be in the next 2-3
months, but not after that.

There's no technical limitation. The better question is, how much extra are
you willing to pay for the AGP edition? What about a $100 premium over the
PCIe X1900? $80 premium?

There is only a certain number of R580 chips to go around. The only reason a
board partner would consider putting them on AGP cards (a much smaller
market) would be higher profit margins on the cards. Gainward is doing
exactly the same thing with 7900GT chips. In end, even if an X1900AGP
existed, it would not be affordable.

You'll be wanting to upgrade your system for Vista anyway, so you may as
well wait to upgrade the vid card and then just get the PCI-E version.

Yes - x850 however I have a fast enough processor for any game I've played,
2GIGs of RAM but I have a 30" screen that really craves a SUPER fast
processor for games like FEAR. Plays PREY pretty well but doesn't cut it
for FEAR and since that is my favorite game for whatever reason I want a
video card that will let me turn on all the bells and whistles at a high
resolution.

Can you list the other hardware?

P4 2.8 Presscott HT, 2 GIG of RAM, 3 - 250 GIG SATA drives - each half full,
SB Audigy 2, MSI MB with Intel 1000 CT nic. Not state of the art by any
means but adequate for just about any game including the Doom 3 engine -
just not sufficient video power for FEAR with any good features turned on.

I would assume the memory is PC3200?

I would say to sell off your motherboard & CPU and get an Asrock motherboard
and AMD dual core.
Asrock makes a motherboard that comes with both AGP & PCI-EX graphics slots.
It would allow you to use your current AGP video card and memory.
And then buy a PCI-EX when you want to upgrade.

Thanks - I've pretty much already decided what I'm getting
Intel D975 Motherboard
Intel 6700
Kingston 2 GIG (to start)
ATI 1900 XTX - To get me by until March
X-Fi
Accoustic Foam
Rubber paint
Zalman GPU cooler
Scythe CPU cooler
Noisetaker power supply

Should last me a couple of years (with video uprade)

I have enough spare parts to cover everything else I need.
