Any backup/Imaging solutions available for Vista yet?

I used Ghost 10.0 on my XP for regular imaging backup and it was working
great in terms of version management. The only imaging solution for backup
purposes that is announced to work on Vista is the Acronis True Image 9 but
I frequently run out of backup space with that as it does not automatically
optimize/merge the old incremental images when space are getting tight.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for imaging backup solution for
vista? I know symantec has Ghost Solution Suite 2.0 but it is not a backup
solution but more for deployment.

Many thanks in advance.

I'm using a BartPE Ghost CD that works perfectly with Vista installs. The
only caveat I have noticed is that you have to do a complete 'Disk" image
not just a single partition.

Also try looking into Acronis True Image 10. I beta tested that through out
the Vista TechBeta and that worked wonderfully as well.

As far as a FULL image backup goes, I just tried Vista's native
"Complete PC Backup" for the first time today, backing up my Vista
system partition to two DVDs, then turned around and restored the
backup, and I'm happy to say that both processes went without a hitch.

Completely spaced Complete PC Backup :) Even I need a reminder sometimes.

Yes, I have always been annoyed with this, so when scheduled incremental
backups fail I have to delete the Acronis Secure area and remake it before
making a fresh full backup. This loses all rollback potential of course.

I never realised that Ghost didn't have this disadvantage, and I have always
thought TrueImage as being superior in every way. I hope Acronis sort this
out for TrueImage Workstation 10.

Version 10 of the home edition is out now, and claims full Vista
compatibility, but I haven't tried it as I need the network backup that you
only get with the Workstation version.

I think the ability to do a complete system backup--either individual
partitions or whole drive--a wonderful addition to Windows, myself.

I agree. It works great. The only downside is that it will only be available
in Ultimate (and maybe Business and Enterprise?). It would have been great as
a standard feature, even if they included it in Premium.

Actually, I had a typo. I tried on Acronis TI 10 Home. One thing that I
liked about Ghost 10.0 which Acronis failed miserably was the management of
the incremental backup images. Ghost has an option to automatically combine
incremental images to save space. For example, you can schedule Ghost to
keep a maximum of 20 incremental backup points and it will automatically
combine the oldest ones to save space. You can also set a target space
usage and when it gets close to that, it will automatically "optimze" the
backup/restore points.......

Acronis TI 10 lacks this feature so it's incremental backups keep on growing
without control (well not automatically anyway)........ So that's why Ghost
10.0 was kind of superior. I never liked Symantec softwares because they
are generally resource hogs. But I liked Ghost 10.0 enough to keep in on my
XP........

I use Acronis 10.0 and it works great and provides for several tasks. It is
also light weight and very user friendly.

Hope this helps.

So, since most users will have Premium, most users will lack this handy
backup capacity. A shame. And if they want to get it, and still have the
multimedia features, they have to go all the way to Ultimate . . .

I'm sure there are better backup programs out there that
will do a better job and be more affordable than going to
Ultimate if that is the only reason for wanting Ultimate.

Correct. Business would be pointless because of the media stuff and the
only upgrade to HP is Ultimate. Better to buy Ultimate up front (less
expensive).

The Acronis 9.1 Workstation does very well for the incremental. The Acronis
Home is the only one out for the v10.0 thus far, or that I have heard of so
far.

I use the v9 on my XP, as it does not like Vista too well, so the v10 works
on Vista better but there is no Workstation version yet.
