xl2k comes with an addin called autosave.xla
If it's not listed in Tools|addins, then get your distribution CD out and
install excel and install excel (and choose to install this option).

A better option than anything bundled with Excel is Jan Karel Pieterse's
AutoSafe add-in. It's free, and it saves a copy of the file without
overwriting the file itself. When it saves a new backup, the old one goes
into the recycle bin, which in effect gives you a history of the files
you've worked on.
