I volunteer to help Seniors with their PC's.One PC today refused to download
a new antivirus (Free) and only half removed the old free antivirus.I was
intending to download one with auto updates for him. This person also has
(free) zone alarm firewall installed which won't budge either.Could that be
the problem?Could a virus be in PC?I'm quite sure old antivirus was never
updated.He never manually updated it.

Most certainly the computer could be infected. Go through the following
malware removal steps OR do a clean install of Windows after backing up the
client's data.

Go through these general malware removal steps systematically -

Include scanning with David Lipman's Multi_AV and follow instructions to do
all scans in Safe Mode. Please see the special Notes regarding using
Multi_AV in Vista.
