There's a flaw in Norton Anti-Virus 2005 that can keep 3 of it's
auto-protect services from loading
at startup, but 2 of them are started by by NAV's ccApp which is loaded from
the registry.
SAVScan
SAVRT
SAVRTPEL
If you view your Event Viewer logs ( Start Menu | All Programs |
Administrative Tools | Event Viewer)
You'll find an error about SAVScan being unable to start because one of it's
dependencies
failed to start.
The services have to be configured to run automatically, but since they're
hidden services,
you'll have to edit the registery to do so.
Search under the following 3 keys (yellow folder icons in the left pane):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\
Under each one look for 3 sub-keys called:
SAVScan, SAVRT and SAVRTPEL
in each of those look for a value named Start and set it to 2
That's a total of 9 values to check.
