I posted this before but I think someone accidentally responded to it
thinking they were responding to something else. So I am reposting.

should I be configuring my antivirus software to exclude access (mdb) files?

This is probably one of those 'it depends' questions. Personally, I don't
configure my anti-virus software to exclude Access files, not because I
think there is any great risk in doing so (I always manually scan any new
file from any external source anyway) but because I am not encountering any
performance problems. If you are encountering performance problems, then by
all means try it and see if it makes any noticeable difference.

thanks for the reply Brendan. I'm not so much worried about the performance.
I'm more concerned with stability/corruption. I was wondering if it was a
general good practice to exlude the mdb files because of AV software
possibly causing corruptions or general stability issues. I don't know this
to be true, thats why I posted the question. But for some reason I think I
have heard or read that at some time...

....I exclude them on internal scans ...but make sure they get fully scanned
when importing.
