Microsoft antispyware does not go on my system - Microsoft Windows XP Pro
with SP2. And all is genuine. What's going on here?

Sincerely,

Barry Karas

Hi Barry

What do you mean by "does not go on my system"?

What error are you getting when you try and install? Your post is very
vague.

Windows XP firewall is crap. Get ZoneAlarm or similar to protect your PC.

First let me say I am not a Microsoft basher, but having used their
anitspyware since it first came out, it is NOT very good. I can not ever
remember it finding any spyware on my system, even though other antispyware
software does find spyware and eliminates it.

I would suggest using Ada-Aware or Spybot, both are free and work great.

Jerry;
If you find spyware with the others that Windows Defender misses, report it
and/or post details to the Windows Defender newsgroups:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/newsgroups/default.mspx

If the spyware detected is cookies, Windows Defender does not detect
cookies.
Internet Explorer and other browsers already have systems in place for users
to easily control cookies.

Perhaps it is not finding anything because there is nothing to find.
I use Windows Defender, AdAware SE, and Spybot S+D.
All the later 2 find are cookies, no spyware.
Cookies are not necessarily spyware although the marketing of some makes it
seem so.

Good info Jupiter, everything found by the other antispyware are tracking
cookies. Did NOT know Defender did not know Defender was designed to find
these.

Like Antivirus programs not all of them have the same definitions. Unlike
antivirus, you can have more than one antispyware program. Nothing wrong
with that. I use several of them myself and do find that one will find
things others do NOT.
