Antispyware installation

Kristi

Yesterday I installed Microsoft Antispyware. It started
fine last night. Today, however, there was an error
message. It says there was something wrong with the
installation, and I should try running the program again,
and if the problem continues to uninstall. I tried to run
and then uninstall, and it won't let me even uninstall the
program. Last night the program found some things that the
others haven't. I really like it. I just don't know what
to do now!

Thanks,
Kristi

Please download the following Microsoft tool:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;290301

This is the Windows Installer Cleanup tool.

Install it and run it and look for an entry for the
Microsoft Antyspyware.

If you find that, remove it.
That should fix the issue.
If that works, I'd recommend removing the cleanup tool,
via add or remove programs--it isn't something you'll need
regularly.

Hello,

Thank you for the reply. Could you post the tool one more
time? I couldn't get it to find the correct page. Thank you!

If you were able to delete the installer information using the cleanup tool,
you are free to either reinstall the program or not use it.

I'd recommend reinstalling, myself. The only machines I've uninstalled from
were servers which were seeing the errors.log file grow to 4 gigabytes.
That bug is fixed, I understand, in the current version, so I don't have any
situations in which I feel any qualms about having it installed.

Hello! After I used the cleanup tool there was still an
icon on desktop for the program. I went to add/remove
programs and it is not there. I tried to pull it up and it
had error 101. Then I tried to reinstall it and received
message 1719 I believe saying that it had not been
installed correctly. I really liked the program and would
hate not to be able to use it. Is there anything else I
need to do or am I doing something wrong? Thank you for
all of your help!

I'd recommend deleting the contents of the installation folder and
everything below (\program files\microsoft antispyware)

See if that allows you to then reinstall.

Hello! I just wanted to let you know that I followed your
instructions and it worked. I restarted to make sure,
because that is when the trouble started last time. It
seems fine. Thank you for your help. It's truly appreciated.
