I've used Norton and Avast at home and McAfee at work and I've not had a
problem with any of them.

Sorry about taggin along on this dated thread. I have the same questions. I
am a novice with a new computer and vista premium.

I want to know, if I never had any other operating sysstem or security
protection software on this computer - is windows defender and firewall along
with my ICP provider security sufficent protection. Should one consider
paying for another full packaged security software and install on their PC?

Currently, a trial version of Mcafee is installed on my computer. I have
downloaded a free version of AVG antivirus. I have also, checked into Panda
products?

Can someone give me some direction?

Windows Defender is not an anti virus ..its anti malware and anti spyware.
You do need an Anti Virus with Vista...You Have Mcafee.....set it up to run
every nite and update it regularly.....when the free trial expires switch to
the free version of AVG.

See the replies in the new post you made. FYI, in general it's not a good
idea to post a question onto another person's thread, unless it's a follow
up question to that person. Create a new thread, as you did latter, with
your issue.

I have switched to AVG, but my computer (Vista) will not respond when I
attempt to uninstall McAfee. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Personally I would format and reinstall Vista to get rid of McAfee
completely. Or check to see if you have a Restore Point created before
McAfee was installed. If you do you could use it to roll-back.

That's easy. NEVER install _anything_ which originates via McAfee
(original concoction, or aqquired). Even so far back as 1996 (and, quite
probably earlier, also), McAfee had an "attitude". I made up my mind,
back then, to never use anything "McAfee" again.
