Anti Virus Program

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me in installing an anti virus. I have
tried just about all the programmes suggested by Microsoft and none have
installed. Most of the time I get the message that installation files are
corrupted and redownload the programs. I am on a dialup connection(I live in
the country, nothing faster availabe) and this is getting frustrating. I
even downloaded a 54 megs program that Vista Ultimate refused to load. I
keep getting the popup that when I open that says that the publisher is
unknown(baloney) and then I have to click OK and the program refuses to open.
Norton System Works or Anti virus refuses to go past SPBBC does not support
this OS. I love Vista(so far) but I am about ready to flush it if I can't
find an anti virus. I am not suicidal yet. Any help will get you my
everlasting recognition.

As Jimmy suggest try Avast (free version) The free version of AVG has also
been used by many people.

i'm currently using PC Cillin Beta (the one available from the link in
Security center) and this has installed and works fine on my machine but, as
you say, if you are on dial up you need something that is going to take less
time to download. The free version of AVG is around 17MB. I wouldn't have
thought that Avast is much larger.

I've been using AVG Free with no problems. Just make sure you select Install as Administrator.

If you have problems installing the Avast or AVG antivirus, you may also
have a corrupt install of Vista. If you continue to have problems, I may
suggest to reinstall the OS.

I think the chances of people who can't install AVAST having a "corrupt
install of Vista" particularly if Vista is working relatively well that has
anything to do with that problem are slim and none Jason.

I have Vista 5536 working fine, and a lot of us have exp. problems on it
installing AVAST. One solution is to go to driver verifier by typing
verifier in the run box and disalbing *inspection of the software drivers
for AVAST.* This has no impact on the functionality of AVAST AV. Also this
is one of the steps to prevent blue screens from showing up, along with
disabling deadlock detection in Driver Verifier.

CH, can you give a little more information?

There are a number of questions asked from the verifier wizard, this is a
good oportunity to learn something and fix something.

**I've installed 5536 about 6 times, from 3 different downloads, Avast,
Trend and AVG all will not load resident scanner.***

E-trust doesn't load either. When I try to install using "Run as
Administrator" it pops up right away with Known Compatibility Issues..

Trend-Micro PC-illin 14 for Vista had to be uninstalled/reinstalled for 5536
but it works fine.

According to Avast under Vista 5536 ONLY. MS accidently blocked their
scanner from working. Even if you get it to install it will not function
correctly.
