Don't worry AMAZED, its always hard when new :) - all we ask is that folks use the search button first to see if the answer can be found elsewhere - and if you still need to post a problem, then start a new thread in the appropriate section :thumb:

As regards your AntiVir report - the warnings are normal since these files are locked by operating systems. Most other AVs do not warn when files could not be accessed, AntiVir does warn however which may be a bit confusing to some people. I guess it is better to warn though, just in case some malware locks its files and the scanner cannot access them.

The files on your report are always locked by windows, if additional files are noted, you may want to recheck... as you can see it's mostly LOG, DAT the page and hibernate files. If there are warnings on executables, or on files with weird names you might have a problem though - not sure what the references to 'barbwalker-at-tiscali.co.uk' is in there though.....

Scanning in Safe Mode minimizes them, and I believe there is an option not to SEE them in the report, but you cannot disable them.

Make sure you also use Ad-Aware/Spybot S&D/Spywareblaster/Windows Defender as well for all those Ad/Spy/Malware nasties - get them free via HERE :thumb:

... can anyone advise wot i am meant to do with these warnings ?
It does "look" ominous but is quite normal for Anti-vir to issue these warnings.

You'll be pleased to know none were of any importance and you can disregard them.

The important points are;

The scan has been done completely.
1752 Scanning directories
76909 Files were scanned
0 viruses and/or unwanted programs was found
0 files were deleted
0 files were repaired
0 files were moved to quarantine
0 files were renamed
2159 Archives were scanned

:thumb:

Anti-vir was doing a thorough job but was not aloud to scan Windows files that XP was using AND protecting by itself. ;)

No need to scan the D or A drives if you have no CD or Floppy in those drives. :thumb:

Enjoy!
