anti-keylogger

Is there a free anti-keylogger out there somewhere? Thanks in advance.

Hi Terry,

I'm not sure what you mean by "anti-keylogger." Ad-Aware finds
keyloggers, so I assume that other spyware scanners (like Spybot) would
catch keyloggers as well.

I hope I haven't misinterpreted your request.

If you're looking for a keylogger-detector, I found one at
http://dewasoft.com/privacy/kldetector.htm
There is no setup required. It's a no-install program that is 106KB so
it will easily fit on a floppy if you want. It requires that all
programs that put icons in your system tray be shut down before you use
it (and I don't know why the detector requires that). One word of
advice: Watch for false-positive results. The detector is
sensitive---so sensitive that it will catch the keylogger and might try
to convince you that your favorite word-processor is a keylogger too.

You can download a free keylogger for parental/home use at
http://www.kmint21.com/free/ This one works exactly like a spyware
program except it was created for parents to keep track of their kids
and it places a log file on the hard drive and doesn't send the
captured keystrokes across the internet. You can load this .exe and
then test the dewasoft detector if you like.

Each time I run Ad-Aware, it FINDS this home-keylogger's setup.exe on
my backup drive---even thought the home keylogger is not running and
it's not even installed!

Hope that helps, Bro!

Terry
The anti-virus program Anti-Vir does a good job of detecting keyloggers.
It also does a good job of detecting all sorts of nasties. It can
be a bit paranoid, so watch your settings.

Avast sees it as <Sign of "Win32:Trojan-gen. {Other}">
But it's safe, isn't it?

just alert you to them after the fact.

Kaspersky alerts with a prefix of "not a virus" which is the way it
tells you that it is some kind of "controversialware" ... software
that can be used for nefarious purposes. But it's not a Trojan since
it does what it is advertised to do. Avast's alert is misleading, but
I suspect that by {Other} it may be trying to say the same thing.

I can't say for sure that Kaspersky is correct and Avast is wrong,
and therefore it's safe to install the program. I'm merely trying to
explain what it looks like to me. I did upload the file to Virus Total
where a few other av products concur with KAV ... that it's not
actually a Trojan but a controversial application. A few others don't
make the distinction and they report a Trojan.
