Antec True480

I'm thinking about buying the Antec True480 and I read this on a web site:

"The TruePower Fan Only connectors are designed to power standard fans only.
Attaching thermally-controlled fans to these connectors will likely result in
unpredictable and undesired behavior. Thermally-controlled fans should only
be connected to the standard 4-pin Peripheral Power Connectors. "

Can I use smart fans? are they the same as thermally controlled fans?

Are these case fans compatible with the True480 Fan Only connectors:

What type connectors does the True480 have for fans?
Are they 3 pin male?

What is the difference between True480 and TrueBlue480? same specs?

The "fan only" connector is a standard Molex 4-pin type (as used with IDE
hard drives and CD drives), although it only has one ground wire and the
+12V wire. (Normally, it'd have 5V as well.)

I believe that none of the fans that you list are "smart" (temperature
controlled). Some are three wire (with a tachometer, or RPM sensor), and
some have bare wires. It's convenient to buy what you need (or, use a 3-wire
to 4-wire adapter, which some of the fan kits include). However, if you can
use a crimper and have access to Molex connectors, your options are broader.

I have no experience with the TruePower series, so I don't know how well the
control functions. I have a couple of 80 mm Antec smart fans (temperature
controlled) in my case; they're pretty quiet when not running at maximum
RPM.

It appears that the True Blue is the same as a TruePower, but with added
blue LEDs for the case modifiers. Not the sort of thing I care about, but it
shouldn't add much to the price.

The Antec power supply looks like a good choice, although they aren't
inexpensive. (I'm currently using a Thermaltake 430W unit - got it for about
$45.)

Have fun.

beats me ;)

The "fan only" connectors run off the same line as the power supply's
fans. They have temperature speed control and fans connected to the
fan only connectors spin at the same rate as the PS fan which is very
slow ~1500RPM or less. Most people don't want their case fans
spinning that slow. In theory, when things get hot, all the fans will
spin faster. I'd prefer to keep things cool in the first place. I
tried them with several different fans, and they were too slow for my
taste. I bought a sunbeam fan speed controller and adjusted the case
fans to my liking. I can turn them up if necessary eg the lan party
in august ;)

Molex, two only, ganged together.
Are they 3 pin male?

Nope. two pin +/-. forget which gender, the standard one.
What is the difference between True480 and TrueBlue480? same specs?

Blue LED fan.

I'd take a look at the price difference between the 480 and the 550.
You may want to get the better PSU for a few dollars more.

I have my fan-only connectors hooked up to the 120mm
exhaust fans in my Antec p160 cases...

Possibly the TruePower fan-only connectors were designed
for 120mm fans (which spin slower by design)?

Very good point.

I've got mine in a non-antec case with dual 80mm case fans.
