Another WinExplorer Hang Issue

So ever since I started using Windows XP Home, I've had the chronic problem
of Windows Explorer just hanging on me every single time I try and view any
folder with a video in it.

If the folder has even one WMV, MPEG, ASX, MOV, AVI, etc etc etc in it, then
I have to Ctrl+Alt+Del and close it.

Here's the fun part - this ONLY happens when I'm using the windows file
browser (Winfunctionkey+E, my computer desktop icon, etc). If I browse
folders via a program (Windows Media Player, Winamp, Adobe Premier,
Photoshop, ANYTHING) then I have absolutely zero problems.

I have this problem even on a completely clean, fresh install so it's not a
virus, spyware, fragmentation, etc. I'm guessing it's somehow hardware
related, but that makes no sense to me.

Even in safe mode I have this issue. It's really become a major thorn in my
side. Any help whatsoever is appreciated.

Pentium 4 3.02E 800mhz FSB
MSI 865PE Neo2-V motherboard
1GB Corsair DDR 400Mhz RAM (512MBx2)
250GB Western Digital SATA2 HDD
Nvidia GeForce FX5200 128MB Video
Creative Soundblaster Live 128 Soundcard
MSI 8606 TV @nywhere PCI TV Tuner Card w/FM

all of my drivers are fully updated, all of my software is fully updated,
and I'm a bit beyond tiffed at this.

Sorry about the length of this, but I wanted to cover as many bases as I
could think of.

Hi Josh,

Let me make some observations and one suggestion.

Using the File Open Dialog to browse your folders is a bit different from viewing folder contents in Windows Explorer.
Also, a fresh install is fresh, yes, but then one starts adding add-on programs & utilities.
I think you need to make an inventory of the add-on programs for multi-media that you have installed.
Also, try to remember what other "file handler / file manager-type" programs you may have added.

Suggest your bring up Windows Explorer, and then immediately select Tools, Then Folder options. Click on the VIEW tab.
Press the Restore Defaults button, then OK.

Josh, take a look at my April 25 solution in the "Windows Explorer hangs
when viewing pictures" thread . It solved the problem for me.
