I'm a believer in both backups and System Restore, which has bailed me out
several times without any problems. My question is: Can the cumulative
restore points be deleted? I have them dated 5 months ago, not every day
but almost.
Thanks Larry

Try to reduce the size smaller from the restore tab. Since
each system is diffrent what works for one might be right
for another.

Yes, just shrink the size of the Restore file.

Start
Control Panel
System
System Restore tab
Settings button
Reduce the disk space by moving the slider
OK
OK

Restore points and their history are determined by an amount
of disk space set aside for SR's use. If you make this space
smaller, the older restore points should be deleted.
Might be an idea to trim it down. I keep about a weeks worth
in mine, about 400MB!

Right click "my computer"/properties/system restore,
click on the drive in question then settings.

Adjust the space as desired.

That's a whole lot of restore points. You can delete all except the
most current via start, programs, accessories, system tools, disk
cleanup, more options.
Or remove the whole thing by turning off system restore, rebooting,
then turning it on again.
Control panel \ system \ system restore tab.

You can easily delete all but the most recent one; Start - All Programs
- Accessories - System Tools - Disk Cleanup and it is one of the 'More
Options'

Aside from this, in System - System restore, you can reduce the amount
of space allotted on the drive. Highlight (each if more than one), take
Settings and adjust the slider down. I suggest something under 1GB (I
use 500M) - the default of 12% is very big on large drives and it seems
that having too much rope can cause it to hang itself. Also. there is
no point in having it on at all on a drive devoted to data , which it
does not handle. After a reboot, the excess points that will not fit
will be deleted
