Another Folder/File Delete Question

ShuBDoo

Add/Remove programs lists KB893803. I have no clue what it is, but
whatever it is I'm happy with it. Can I take a chance and double click
the entry ??

Folder C:\Windows\$hf_mig$ has lots of "KB" files. Can these be deleted
also.

TIA for all responses. BTW I manually make a "System Restore"
checkpoint before deleting files that may impact my XP PRO installation.

Hi

That folder holds duplicates of the Windows Updates. I would suggest that
you leave it where it is. How big is the folder?

The folder $hf_mig$ has 25 files and 41 folders. What is strange is that
there are NO files in any of the folders and no separate files. Even
unchecking "Hidden" did not reveal any files. Weird !!

Sorry, I didn't answer your question. Folder is 2.77MB in size.

I would say with it being that small, leave it be. Windows sometimes uses
those to speed up future updates by not having to download the same thing
again. Add/Remove programs lists some of those (and probably many you don't
see the files for) as a way to remove them if they cause problems, and in
some cases, just an easy way to see what updates you do have in case you have
a problem.

Hi

At that size, I would be inclined to leave it where it is.

Leave it alone!
However, the folders named $uninstKB and then numbers contain the uninstall
information for updates. They can be removed when you're sure you won't
want to uninstall the update. I delete them after 60 days.

If you delete the files/folders for the $uninstKB, you also need to manually
cleanup the Add/Remove entries ... don't you. Most people don't know about
that when they just arbitrarily delete files/folders.

And then they wonder why information is left hanging around in the
Add/Remove list.
