Annoying Virtual Memory behavior

I'm running Win2k-SP4 and have 3 times more (1.5gb) RAM I EVER use (I
check "peak usage" now and then to confirm this, and never exceed
512mb). I tried creating a small swap file (64mb to 128mb), since I saw
no need for anything larger. In spite of this Win2k occasionally gives
me an error dialog stating that it is allocating more swap space
because I don't have enough.

It's really stupid that Win2k wants to start using swap space when I
have over 1gb of free memory when it decides to do this.

Is there some way to disable this behavior???

No. Other than increasing the size of your page file. Windows will
always use the pagefile regardless of how much ram is installed or used.
