Annoying Taskbar Animation when new window opens

Gari Fenton

Difficult to describe but I'll try my best.

I have a window open either full screen or to the front
of the screen (i.e other windows open behind) and my
taskbar is minimised (hidden). If another window then
opens behind the window I have active, (eg A pop up
window, an application telling me its finished or a
message appearing in MSN), an annoying Orange flashing
icon appears on my taskbar, which becomes unhidden and
has the contents of the new open window written inside.
It is the same icon as you get on your taskbar when a
window is open, but not grey, it flashes orange then
stays orange until you've made that window active! How do
I get rid of it.
I have tried disabling Windows Messenger Service but
nothing has changed. I am slowly pulling my hair out.

Many thanks.

If you have TweakUI installed, open it and go to General/Focus. When you
select the "Prevent applications from stealing focus" option, it will enable
the taskbar flashing that you are seeing. This is to show you that another
application has accomplished a task. You can set the flashing to as little
as one time.

Thanks Ronnie. So what you are saying is that it isnt
possible to disable it altogether. And when you say get
it down to flashing just once only does that mean it just
pops up and stays a steady orange until activated? I may
have to go back to Win 98SE because it IS that annoying,
but thankyou for your help.

One of the most annoying problems with 98/ME was programs that would steal
focus. If you were working with multiple apps and one of them would complete
an operation or in the case of IE a web page would change, it would
automatically pop up on top of the window you were working in at the time
which would require you to minimize it to get it out of the way. The
behavior we are discussing solves this problem and IMO is much less
intrusive than the original problem.
