Annoying Maintenance Problems

Hi, Everyone,
I hope someone will be able to help me with this. I've been experiencing
some problems with the Windows Vista Home Premium Edition lately. It all
started when my Internet Explorer or Microsoft Office Outlook kept on getting
stuck, and I would get a note that Internet Explorer / Outlook is restarting.
I've been experiencing this problem in particular only with these two.
Next - as of yesterday, I started getting all these weird messages when
logging onto familiar websites, such as Google and even Microsoft, about how
there's a problem with the websites' security certificate, and that it's
expired, so I have to click on "Continue to this website" every single time,
and the worst part is that I can't logon to my MSN Messenger! The Error Code
is: 80048820, and the Extended Error Code is: 80048412. I've tried working
with their Troubleshoot, but nothing works! It's strange, because my Skype is
working perfectly fine. I don't live at home, so MSN is a very important
communication tool for me.
The third problem is that all of the usual Windows Updates, which are
normally downloaded automatically, are not downloaded anymore, and I get a
message that the Updates could not be downloaded.
Can somebody please help me with these? I'd really appreciate any kind of
help. Thanks a mill! :)

What is the malware/virus status of the machine? If you think it is clean,
what programs (and versions) did you use to determine this?

Be sure the computer is clean:

Be thorough in your scanning per the instructions above. Do not skip the
prep work and make sure to do the work in Safe Mode as instructed.

Don't Panic!

It would be easier to do a clean install.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. But it is up to the OP to make that decision,
not me.

Hello again,
Do you know what the problem was??? The date on my computer was not set! It
was set for July 2006, and I have no idea how it happened. Now everything
works fine! :)
Thanks a million for the help and have a great day! :)

That's great that you figured it out and didn't have to go through anything
drastic. Thanks for taking the time to post the solution.
