A friend of mine asked me for help on a WinXP MediaCenter. Whenever he start
his system, an application always pops up asking for an installation disk.
He doesn't want to install the software either. Another thing is he does not
have this disk! To be more specific, the software is a Corel Photo Album.

I look for the start-up program file, the msconfig startup but couldn't find
this culprit. The control panel's remove facility does not show this in the
listing.

Where else would they install this culprit!

Thanks

First I would look (you may have already done this) under

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
and
C:\Documents and Settings\*****Your Frind*****\Start
Menu\Programs\Startup

Then since it isn't showing anything under add/remove programs, I would
do a computer search for Corel, and a regedit search for it also

Just go to start - run - regedit ctrl f and type what ever file you are
looking for. I would also search the reg. for startup and start up to
see if I could find anything.

Go to sysinternals.com and download Autoruns. It will show you absolutely
everything that is loading on startup and permit you to disable and/or
delete the registry entry that is causing the problem. Start with the
Logon tab and then explore more deeply from there.

Caution--the delete feature is quite powerful. You may want to back up the
registry using ERUNT (google on it) before you delete anything with
Autoruns.

I had a similar problem with an app trying to install at reboot. It was
calling microsoft installer (msi) as it was saying please insert the disk
(which I didn't have as it was a failed internet upgrade) I looked under
task manger and MSI was running

I found an entry for msi in the add remove programs which, when unistalled,
stopped the problem.

hope that helps
