Annoyance: Alarms for past-due calendar items sounds upon any edit

There is an annoying behavior in Outlook 2007 that I don't think occurred in
the previous version.

If I edit, in any way, and save a past due event that has an alarm set, the
alarm immediately goes off, causing the "Reminders" window to popup.

This is particularly annoying as I can have many past due events that I
haven't deleted (because they were never taken care of) which I want to edit
and organize (e.g. assign a category, change its text slightly, move to a
different time that is still in the past, etc.).

I have to move them to ahead of the current time, in order to organize them
without having to deal with the annoying pop-up with every change.

Is this normal reminder/calendar item behavior? Can something be done about
it?

There are changes in behavior how reminders work - much older versions
annoyed with the 'can't set alarm on past events' dialog, now the reminders
on past due items go immediately if you edit them but don't change the date
or dismiss the reminder.

This specific behavior was also in Outlook 2003 - you need to either dismiss
the reminder in the reminder dialog (that sets it to none automatically) or
set the reminder to none yourself if you are keeping it on the same date.

Thank you for pointing out that if I dismiss the reminder, it is actually
removed, and I can edit the appointment as I see fit without having to worry
about an alarm popping up. I didn't know that, and apparently I had not been
dismissing the alarms before editing.

You aren't alone - I rarely dismiss them before editing either and I knew
this was how it worked. :)
